CHICOPEE – Betty Lou (Latour) O’Neill, 78, of the Sandy Hill section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Agawam South Rehabilitation and Nursing surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on October 8, 1945, a beloved daughter of the late J. Aime and Bella L. (Francouer) Latour. She was raised on Britton Street in the Fairview section of Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee High School, lived in the Willimansett section of the city, and moved to the Sandy Hill section of Chicopee around 1971 where she lived the remainder of her life. She began her working career as a secretary at A.G. Spalding in Chicopee, then was employed at Deluxe Check Printers in Springfield, and was last employed as a Sales Associate at the Sears Department Store on Boston Road in Springfield; however, her greatest pride was raising and taking care of her family. She was a longtime communicant at the former Saint Mary of the Assumption Church and was currently a communicant at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, both in Chicopee. In her younger years, she was very active with the PTO and volunteered at both the Szetela and Barry Schools, as well as the Amberjacks Swim Team, all in Chicopee. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends, especially her sister, Lillian Daviau, who passed in 2022. They loved to try their luck at the casinos. Betty was also an avid sports fan and could always be found cheering for her New England sports teams. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Richard L. O’Neill who was Called Home on July 3, 1999. She leaves her three loving and devoted children, Jeffrey B. O’Neill and his wife, Jennifer, of Derry, NH, Jennifer L. Boryczka and her husband, John, and Kimberly A. O’Neill, all of Chicopee; her seven cherished grandchildren, Timothy C. O’Neill, Meghan H. O’Neill, Amy K. O’Neill, Aaron C. O’Neill, Morgan E. Harris, Nathan K. Boryczka, and Brandan J. Boryczka; her dear sister in law, Judith Flamini and her husband, Stephen, of Canandaigua, NY; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and extended family members. Her funeral will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, June 16, 2023 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
