Irene D. (McCloud) Wilbur, 86, of Somerset, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Sarah Brayton Nursing Care Center. She was the wife of the late Nathan A. "Nick" Wilbur III.
Mrs. Wilbur was born in Boston, daughter of the late Maurice and Myrtle (Bowen) and her late foster parents Russell and Ruth Green and had resided in Little Compton for most of her life prior to relocating to Somerset. She was a graduate of Wakefield High School. She was a former teacher assistant at the J.F. Wilbur McMahon School, Little Compton, had previously worked for New England Telephone Co. Yellow Pages Division, Boston. She was also a part time secretary for C&W Supply, Little Compton, a correspondent for the Fall River Herald News and a writer for Al's Almanac, Westport. She was also a typist clerk for Charlton Memorial Hospital and a U.S. Censor taker and crew leader.
Mrs. Wilbur was past president and secretary of the Wilbur School parent, student and teachers association; past vice-president of Little Compton girls softball league; served on the Board of New Visions, Newport and past president of the Little Compton Support Personnel (ESP) of the National Education Association Union. She was a member of Atlantic Coast Old Timers and a former member of Rainbow for Girls Assemble #43.
Survivors include her 2 daughters: Lisa D. Reidy of Naples, FL and Tracy L. Resendes of Somerset; her son: Andrew G. Wilbur of Brunswick, GA; 2 grandsons: Stephen A. Reidy and Jacob A. Wilbur; 6 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, June 14, 2024 at the Potter Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Thursday from 5-8 P.M.
Interment in Pleasant View Cemetery, Tiverton.
