Richard M. Lena, age 83, a longtime resident of Tewksbury passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 5, 2024 at the Blaire House in Tewksbury, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Everett, MA, and was the son of the late Leonard & Jennie (Perkins) Lena.
Richard was raised in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School.
In 1959, he joined the Navy, and he was stationed in Panama.
Richard worked at a number of engineering companies including National Radio, Microwave Associates, Wang Labs, Ungermann Bass, Newbridge, Alcatel and Agere.
He loved his music and the White Mountains. He enjoyed hiking, snowmobiling and camping. He would often pile the neighborhood kids in the back of his pickup and take them for a hike. Then shared that same joy taking his grandchildren on hikes and snowmobiling. He was an avid Ham Radio Operator. He loved to share stories about the Navy and all his life’s adventures.
He is survived by his wife Fabiola whom they just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 31, 2023: three daughters: Mary Pittsley and her husband Carl of Billerica, MA., Ann Carter of Haverhill, MA. and Priscilla Piscopo and her husband Dave of Salem, NH: eight grandchildren: Stephanie Vega, Jeremy Pittsley, Ted Carter, Joe Carter and fiancé Trystan, Mark Carter and fiancé Lily, Bryan Carter, Jessica Piscopo and fiancé Jacob and Angela Piscopo: six great grandchildren, Natalia, Harper, Elena, Jacelynn, Vera and Grayson: his brother, William Lena of Litchfield, NH: his sisters in law, Cheryl Lena of Billerica and Tina Lena of Sturbridge MA. He leaves many nieces, nephews, friends, and his cat “Kitty”.
Richard is predeceased by his sister Rita Richardson and companion Richard Carey, Brother Ronald Lena and brother Fred Lena and his wife Pat.
Calling hours are Monday, June 10th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. His funeral procession will begin on Tuesday, June 11th, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a graveside service at 11 a.m. at the Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington.
