Obituary

WESTERLY: Joseph S. Pollard, born on June 21, 1961 in Groton CT, passed away on June 5, 2024.

Joseph was a veteran of the United States Air Force. After his military service he became a highly skilled master carpenter, contributing to the construction and renovation of many homes in the area. His expertise and dedication to his craft earned him the respect and admiration of his community.

Joseph has a passion for riding his Harley, especially during the Christmas season when he participated in the Sons of Santa program, spreading joy, and toys, and making a difference for many children in the area. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, and spending time with his friends, creating cherished memories on and off the water.

He was predeceased by his father, Gerald C. Pollard. Joseph is survived by his loving mother MaryJane (Hughes) Pollard, and his stepfather, John Short. He also leaves behind his brothers: James Pollard and his wife Marty of Gales Ferry, Jeffrey and his wife Julie (Noel) Pollard of Noank, Jay Pollard, John Pollard and his wife Lisa of Port Orchard. His sister, Jenee Gehler, and her husband Tony, also of Port Orchard, survive him. Joseph is also remembered fondly by his many nieces, nephews and all his friends that he's made through the years.

Joseph and his family would also like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at the VA Medical Center in Providence RI for the amazing care he's received these last few years.


Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 9, from 1 to 3:00pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic with a Memorial Service immediately following at 3:00pm at the funeral home. Family and friends are invited to gather and share their memories of Joseph. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to cthumane.org in Joseph's name.

Joseph S. Pollard will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of service, craftsmanship, and generosity will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
