Doris M. (Hodges) (Jager) King, age 89, of Middleborough, died peacefully at her home on the morning of May 31, 2024. She was the daughter of the late George F. Hodges and Catherine P. (Littler) (Hodges) Avalle. She was raised in North Quincy and she graduated from North Quincy High School.
Doris is survived by her younger brother Robert B. Hodges, who she affectionately referred to as her first baby, and his wife Joanne. She is also survived by her children Julie C. DeNicola, Samuel T. King, Niel F. King, Scott T. King and wife Laura, Christina L. Butta and husband Philip, Laura E. Reilly and Jeffery P. King and wife Mary. Doris was blessed with two loving husbands who predeceased her, Thomas H. Jager and Charles W. King Jr.
Doris was a dedicated, hardworking woman with a sharp sense of humor. She loved raising children and was devoted to her family. Doris was the proud mother of 7, grandmother of 18, great grandmother of 28 and great great grandmother of 2. For many years she was a foster care mother for infants and toddlers.
In her youth, Doris was a member of the Rainbow Girls and later the Order of the Eastern Star. She greatly enjoyed ballroom, round and square dancing and was an avid bridge card player. Her recent volunteer activities include accompanying clients on the drive to medical appointments and delivering Meals on Wheels for the Middleborough COA. Doris was an active member of the Lakeville United Church of Christ.
A Celebration of Doris’ Life will be held at the Lakeville United Church of Christ, August 10, 2024 at 10am. She will be buried in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery alongside her first husband Thomas H. Jager.
