Obituary

Richard Neil “Dick” Burdick, age 66, of 290 Flanders Road, passed away Thursday morning at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital with his family at his side.

Dick was born in Mystic on February 23, 1940 the son of Earl C. and Florence (Allen) Burdick. Raised in Mystic, he attended local schools. After his graduation, he served in the US Air Force, stationed in England.

He was employed as a distributor for the Fall River News Co. in New London for 37 years. He also worked as a presser at the former French Cleaners in Mystic for over 40 years.

Dick was a NASCAR fan, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also looked forward to taking cruises to various islands, and enjoyed working with his co-workers at Fall River News.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon “Cookie” (Startz) Burdick whom he married in Groton on February 6, 1971; his children, Ronald Burdick of Greensboro, NC, William Burdick, Cheryl Burdick, and Christopher Burdick, all of San Diego, Richard Burdick Jr. of Mystic, and Daniel Burdick of Spokane, WA; his grandchildren, Brandon, Matthew, Victoria, Christopher, Bryan, Kyle, Crystal, and Alexis; his siblings, Earl Burdick Jr. of No. Stonington, Norma Rogers of Preston, Ruth Stone of TN, Margie Balestracci of MA, and Carol Beck of Vermont; his aunt, Lou Burrows of Groton; and his special friends, Walter Arnold Sr. and his wife Carole Burdick, and Bonnie Haggan. He was predeceased by his siblings, Lois Maye, Dorothy Fusaro, and Russell Burdick.

His family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Sunday from 4-6pm. A Funeral Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11am with Deacon Al Balestracci, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Smith Lake Cemetery, Groton.
