Obituary

Karen J. Higgins, 88, formerly of Nashua, NH passed away on Tuesday June 4, 2024 at the All American Assisted Living in Londonderry, NH. Karen was born in Grantwood, NJ on April 17, 1936, a daughter of the late Joseph and Aurelia (Repetto) Mayer.

She was a graduate of South Portland High School, class of 1953 and later from Northeastern Business School in Portland, ME. Karen worked with the Greater Nashua American Cancer Society. She was employed as function coordinator for Vesper Country Club in Tyngsborough, MA. A long-time communicant, Karen had been very active in the church council at Immaculate Conception Church in Nashua. She also attended St. Patrick’s Church in Nashua. For more than 20 years Karen had a love of aerobic activity and treasured time spent at the beach. Her past as a function coordinator fit perfectly into her home life where she planned and hosted wonderful family events filled with laughter, love and friends. The Peele Road home was the epicenter of many of these treasured times. She will forever be remembered as a loving mom, Nani and great grandmother.

She is survived by four daughters, Kathleen Poirier and her husband Daniel of Nashua, Kelly Bergeon and her husband Charles of Litchfield, NH, Theresa Higgins Brock of Litchfield, Kristin Flynn and her husband Sean of Litchfield and her daughter-in-law, Eileen Higgins of Milford, 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one sister, Nancy J. Tolan of Derry, NH, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Laurence O. Higgins, Sr. in 2018, by her daughter, Debra Higgins in 1960, her son, Laurence O. Higgins, Jr. in 2021, and by her siblings, Donald A. Mayer and Phyllis McInnis.

Following cremation, calling hours will be held on Wednesday June 12, 2024 from 4:30 -6:30pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. Catholic prayers will be offered at 6:30pm. She will be interred at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly, MA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Karen would ask that you enjoy a martini in her memory.
