Obituary



Our beloved, Sotir Vardhami, passed away on Saturday, June 1st 2024, surrounded by family and loved ones. He leaves his wife of 63 years, Maria (Bedjava) Vardhami; his children, Vladimir Vardhami and his wife, Aida of Rome, Italy, Dr. Edlira Duro and her husband, Edmond of Worcester, Massachusetts and Altin Vardhami and his wife, Moida of Natick, Massachusetts; a sister, Antigoni in Tirana, Albania; and six grandchildren, Gledi, Lora, Livia, Olti, Erik and Jon. He was predeceased by his brothers, Prokop and Thoma.
Sotir was born in Gjirokaster, Albania and immigrated to the United States in 1997, bringing with him a wealth of experience and knowledge. Before his journey to the United States, Sotir was a distinguished professor, inspiring countless students with his passion for learning. His tenure ranged from being principal of Koto Hoxhi elementary school, principal of Asim Zeneli High School, and head of the mathematics department of Instituti Pedagogjik in Gjirokaster.
His talent and dedication served as an example to students, colleagues, and his family to excel beyond academics. Those who had the privilege to know him will fondly remember his ability to captivate people with his storytelling and make friends out of everyone he met. Sotir’s vibrant soul and warm heart made him a cherished and respected member of the Albanian community.
He treasured his time with family and friends, creating memories filled with laughter and love. Sotir’s legacy is one of kindness, passion, and wisdom. He will never be forgotten and will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Calling hours are Thursday, June 6th from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue Worcester followed by burial in Hope Cemetery, 119 Webster Street, Worcester.
