Retired Sharon Police Sergeant Robert P. Carroll, age 81, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 3, 2024 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Arlene E. (Gonsalves) Carroll, to whom he was wed for forty-seven years.
Born in Louisville, Kentucky on May 20, 1943, he was a loving son of the late Philip C., Sr. and Mary B. (Cramer) Carroll.
Bob grew up and was educated in Sharon. He was a 1961 graduate of Marion High School in Framingham and continued his education, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from St Michael’s College in Winooski, VT and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA. He also served his country in the Army National Guard.
Mr. Carroll was employed for the Town of Sharon as a member of the Sharon Police Department, a career that spanned twenty-nine years and rose to the rank of Sergeant. Fair but strict, Sergeant Carroll was legendary for motor vehicle enforcement gaining the nickname of “Radar Rob” around the community and stood out as a member of the departments Honor Guard.
A resident of Mansfield for the past forty-seven years, Bob was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield and a member of the Sharon Fish and Game and the NRA. Most of all, Bob loved spending time with his adoring family, especially the grandchildren and time in Vermont.
In addition to his wife Arlene, he is survived by his devoted sons: Philip J. Carroll and his wife Jennifer of Mansfield, Robert J. Carroll and his Michelle of Bridgewater and Eric J. Carroll and his devoted companion Haley Fortier of Mansfield. He was cherished grandfather of Patrick Carroll, Cecelia Carroll, Declan Carroll, Lula Carroll, Maisie Carroll, Sadie Carroll and Cora Carroll. He was the dear brother of Susan A. Jasinski and her husband Raymond of Brewster and the late Philip C. Carroll, Jr. He was the much-loved son-in-law of the late Joseph and Emma Gonsalves and is survived by his loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, June 9th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 10th at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will be held privately at a later date at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
