My beloved wife, Laurel K. Wicks (Purdy), peacefully left this world on May 16th, 2024. Loved and missed by her husband, Ted Wicks and her surviving sister, Teresa Morrison, and several other family members, including her children and their families, lots of cousins, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Doug and Marjorie Purdy and her only brother Christopher Purdy of Maine. Born into a military family in Japan, she also lived in Alaska, Colorado, Maine, Mississippi and Texas as well as Massachusetts.
She is especially proud that both of her sons Albee and Kyle attained the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America and served on Wah-Tut-Ca BSA summer camp staff.
Laurie's passion for cooking, gardening, good movies, light houses, covered bridges, camping and the outdoors, especially Cape Cod, touched all who knew her. She greatly enjoyed making delicious desserts and lovingly prepared dinners mostly from scratch. Nothing was as tasty as a tomato or other vegetable from the family gardens. She took great pride in her home grown cucumbers.
She also took great pride in monitoring and supporting nesting site charities for many bird species including puffins, loons, ospreys, owls and peregrine falcons She also loved all of her pets over the years.
Also her love for the great music of Tom Petty and Pink Floyd among others knew no bounds. She shared that love by attending as many live concerts of these bands and others throughout the years especially with her husband.
A green burial was conducted at Woodside Cemetery overlooking Dennis Pond in Yarmouthport, MA. We will celebrate her life with a memorial service and gathering on August 18th, 2024 at Camp Hedding. Her love for her summer cottage community, Camp Hedding, gave her great comfort.
Contributions to Project Puffin and the National Audubon Society, the American Heart Association or the Jimmy Fund, causes close to her heart, are appreciated.
