William (Bill) Arthur White, 91, of Anderson, IN passed away May 31, 2024.
Bill was born in Cleveland, OH on June 27, 1932. He was the son of Arthur William and Lillian (Dolejs) White. Bill joined the US Navy following high school and spent time on the USS Midway where his life was forever changed after reading The Lord’s Prayer. Curiosity drove him to understand those words, which led to a lifelong faith of serving and sharing God’s love. He graduated from Anderson College in 1960 and from the Seminary in 1963. Bill first served as the Minister of Education at the First Church of God in Baltimore, MD. He then moved on to pastor at Ash Avenue Church of God in Moundsville, WV. Bill then moved to Anderson, IN and finished his career as the Children’s Editor at Warner Press focusing on the middle and junior age curriculum for the magazine Climb, until he retired in 2002. During that time Bill also was an influential part in starting a singles ministry at Park Place Church of God, his home church for most of his life. At Park Place, Bill enjoyed being a part of the church choir, doing visitations for those in hospitals and nursing homes, as well as doing events for the singles group.
Bill is survived by his wife, Pam Storm-White, 4 children, Greg White, Jean (Michael) Rice, Kevin (Trisha) White, Leslie (Keith) Stube, and daughter by marriage, Stephanie (Tobey) Gooding. He has 13 grandchildren, Ian (Olivia) White, Kelly White, Kyle White, Lauren White, Mitchell White, Charlie Stube, Jack Stube, Camden Gooding, Connor Gooding, Emily Gooding, Aidan Gooding, Trenton White, Raven White, and 2 great grandchildren Maynard White and Memphis White. Bill is also survived by his brother, Roger White and niece Julie White.
Bill lived his life full of joy celebrating Faith, Family, and Fun. He loved having get togethers with family and friends to play games, from cards to all out sports matches. He enjoyed swimming, water skiing, golf, tennis, racquetball, ping-pong, volleyball, mush ball, and other outdoor games like Kubb. His favorite sport was golf and he loved to be on the course. The times that sports were not involved then cards and boardgames most definitely were. Bill loved to play games like ping pong with his kids and grandkids, but he wouldn’t let anyone win. If you won a game then you earned it, almost as a rite of passage that he would celebrate with you, although you better be ready for the rematch.
Bill had a creative side that he shared with those around him. He enjoyed photography and had aspired to be published in TIME Magazine, with shots he took of his children. His creativity stretched to canvas and oil painting and paintings he shared with friends and family. When words were needed, he used his creativity to write and tell stories, from work to an auto biography he made for the grandkids to a unique story of The 3 Little Pigs he used to tell his kids
and grandkids. He could use his words to bring stories to life.
Most people that knew Bill would say he lived a happy joyful life that often spilled onto others.
“You don’t get to meet Bill White for the first time and not get a hug or the sturdiest handshake of your life. I can’t imagine that anyone ever met Bill and forgot about him. He really was the most genuinely kind and energetic person that I have ever known and I think with each handshake or hug a little bit of that energy rubbed off onto the people he met. He really lit up the room and knew how to bring people together.”
