Obituary

Sergio M. Ponce, 73 of Worcester passed away Sunday, May 26th in UMass-Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Nora D. Flores; three daughters, Mariela Ponce of Worcester, Faviola Cruz and her husband, Eric Hernandez of Webster and Nancy Ponce Flores of Worcester; two brothers, Ernesto Ponce and Wilfredo Ponce of Worcester. Three sisters, Eliana Ponce, Argelia Ponce of Conchagua, El Salvador, and Miriam Ponce de Villatoro of Worcester; five grandchildren, Isaac Garcia, Aileen Bonnette, Sergio Bonnette, Carlos Moro and Favian Cruz and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers, Leonidas and Reynaldo Ponce and a sister, Lydia Ponce.
He was born in Conchagua, El Salvador, the son of Emilio Vicente and Gertrudes Ponce and came to the United States in 1985, first living in Houston and the Bronx before settling in Worcester. He had been employed as a custodian at Worcester State College and later as a machine operator for Cesyl Mills before retiring. Sergio became a Black Belt in Taekwondo in El Salvador, a sport he was very passionate about. He will be remembered for his love of music, being the life of the party, his ability to make people laugh, and his ongoing connection with friends from near and far. His dog, Coco was his constant companion and was the recipient of Sergio's undivided attention. As a father of three daughters, his patience and generosity was vast and limitless. His greatest joy was the time he shared with family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 4th with a service at 10:00 a.m. in O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, June 3rd from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

Flores; tres hijas, Mariela Ponce de Worcester, Faviola Cruz y su esposo, Eric Hernandez de Webster y Nancy Ponce Flores de Worcester; dos hermanos, Ernesto Ponce y Wilfredo Ponce de Worcester. Tres hermanas, Eliana Ponce, Argelia Ponce de Conchagua, El Salvador, y Miriam Ponce de Villatoro de Worcester; cinco nietos, Isaac García, Aileen Bonnette, Sergio Bonnette, Carlos Moro y Favian Cruz y muchos sobrinos y sobrinas. Fallecido antes, sus dos hermanos, Leonidas y Reynaldo Ponce y una hermana, Lydia Ponce. Nació en Conchagua, El Salvador, hijo de Emilio Vicente y Gertrudes Ponce y llegó a los Estados Unidos en 1985, viviendo primero en Houston y el Bronx antes de establecerse en Worcester. Había trabajado como conserje en Worcester State College y más tarde como operador de maquinaria para Cesyl Mills antes de jubilarse. Sergio se convirtió en Cinturón Negro de Taekwondo en El Salvador, deporte que le apasionaba mucho. Será recordado por su amor por la música, por ser el alma de la fiesta, su capacidad para hacer reír a la gente y su conexión constante con amigos cercanos y lejanos. Su perro, Coco, era su compañero constante y era el destinatario de toda la atención de Sergio. Como padre de tres hijas, su paciencia y generosidad fueron vastas e ilimitadas. Su mayor alegría fue el tiempo que compartió con la familia, especialmente con sus nietos. Todos los que lo conocieron y amaron lo extrañarán grande y tristemente. Su funeral se llevará a cabo el martes 4 de junio con un servicio a las 10:00 a. m. en O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Seguirá el entierro en el Cementerio Hope. El horario de atención es el lunes 3 de junio de 4:00 a 6:00 p. m. en la funeraria.
