David A. Silva, a beloved Navy Veteran and former employee of the Veterans Hospital, passed away on May 26, 2024, after a courageous battle with a long illness. He was 60 years old.
Early Life and Military Service
Born on October 8, 1963, in Brockton, MA, David grew up with a strong sense of family and honor. At 18, he enlisted in the United States Navy, dedicating his life to serving his country.
Life Beyond the Uniform
After his discharge from the Navy, David continued to make a positive impact on his community. He actively mentored young veterans at the local Veterans Hospital, advocating for their well-being. He was a hard worker and did several odd jobs. Always willing to help others. But David wasn’t all serious; he had a gift for making people laugh. His quick wit and infectious sense of humor brightened every room he entered.
A Song in His Heart
David’s love for music was equally remarkable. He often sang soulful tunes, channeling his inner Sam Cooke. Whether it was a quiet evening at home or a lively gathering with friends, David’s voice resonated with warmth and emotion. His rendition of “A Change Is Gonna Come” could move even the toughest hearts.
Honorable Discharge
David’s family fondly remembers the day he was honorably discharged after a medical emergency while on board the USS Blue Ridge in Japan. His dedication to duty and camaraderie left a lasting impression on everyone who served alongside him.
Family and Legacy
David is survived by his parents, Joseph and wife Lynn and Ruth Silva, his two children, Shannon and David, his brother Bernard Silva and wife Sonya, sister Lisa Silva, grandson Denzel, nephews Curtis and Jared, nieces Cassandra and Angelica, several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Family gatherings, especially during holidays, were David’s favorite moments, where he regaled everyone with his jokes. We will forever remember his warm smile, playful spirit, and impromptu serenades.
Final Farewell
Services to celebrate David’s life will be held on June 4, 2024, at Funerarias Multi Culturel, 238 Court Street, Brockton, MA 02302. Friends, family, and fellow veterans are invited to pay their respects and share their memories of this remarkable man:
• June 4th, 4-7pm: Viewing
• June 5th at 10am (immediate family 9am): Funeral service at Funerarias Multi Culturel
• Burial Service: Depart by noon for the 1:30pm service at MA National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne, MA 02532.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Wounded Warrior Project or the American Cancer Society in David’s honor.
