WOLFEBORO, NH ---- Barbara Anne Bickford Crimp, 96, of June Bug Lane, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, May 23, 2024.
She was born January 7, 1928, in Flushing, NY, the daughter of Francis and Esther (Fuller) Bickford. She lived in New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Maine before moving back to New Hampshire. An English major, she achieved her higher education at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Maine at Orono.
In addition to being a full time, stay at home mom, Barbara was later a newspaper editor for the Monadnock Ledger in Peterborough, NH and then became a successful real estate broker in Newcastle, ME where she worked for many years before retiring in 2001.
She loved spending time with family, reading, writing and performing in plays, traveling and watching the news. She was a devoted member of two churches before she died: First Parish Congregational Church, UCC, of Gorham, ME and most recently the First Congregational Church, UCC, of Wolfeboro, NH.
She was a former equestrienne, sailor, tennis player, farmer and Sunday school teacher. She did church mission work and sponsored many children through Child Fund until her death.
She leaves behind two sons, Peter M. Crimp and spouse, Paula Cullenberg, of Homer, AK, David H. Crimp and spouse, Erica Crimp of Blodgett, OR and a daughter, Susan E. Crimp-Marcet and her husband Gary Marcet, of Wolfeboro. There are 6 grandsons: Tyler F. Marcet, his spouse Grace Nooney, Nathaniel P. Marcet, James Crimp, Matthew A. Markey-Crimp, his spouse Dale Markey-Crimp, Ryan Bartlett Crimp and Ben Richardson, as well as five nieces and three nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Frank W. Crimp, Jr. and brothers, Paul (and his wife Elizabeth Jenkins) Bickford and Norman F. (and his wife Virginia Clayter) Bickford; and a grandchild, Sky Richardson.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held on Friday, July 12th at 1:00 pm at the First Congregational Church of Wolfeboro, UCC, 115 South Main Street, Wolfeboro, NH.
A private burial will be held at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA.
