Amedeo ‘Al’ Alberico, 80 of Tewksbury, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2024 at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Maureen A. (Wolseley) Alberico with whom he would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary this upcoming August 15.
He was born in Roccacaramanico, Italy on November 3, 1943 and was a son of the late Ernesto and Angela (DiVico) Alberico. Around age 10, he and his family relocated to the United States settling in Watertown and attended the area schools, graduating from Newton Technical High School.
After high school he joined the United States Army, mostly serving in Germany before his honorable discharge in 1967. He then began his career working at New England Telephone, where he met his wife, Maureen. Al worked as a computer technician for Verizon for over 35 years before his retirement in 2003.
Al enjoyed gardening, bird watching, day trips, and crossword puzzles. He was a staple in his neighborhood, offering gardening advice or keeping neighborhood watch. Above all else, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, brought him the most happiness.
In addition to his beloved wife, Maureen Alberico of Tewksbury, he is survived by two daughters, Denise Carr and her husband, Derek of Tewksbury, and Jennifer Alberico of Manchester, NH; three grandchildren, Ashley Johnson and her husband, Wayne of Derry, NH, Shawn Jones of Tewksbury, and Jack Bastian of Tewksbury; and two great grandchildren; Jade and Evan Amedeo Johnson.
He is also survived by his sisters, Ada DeLuca of Tewksbury, Licia DeLuca and her husband, Mike of Tewksbury, Josephine Ovoian and her husband, Bill of Watertown, and Eva Arico and her husband, Russ of Watertown; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Maria Alberico, Augusta Deiulio and her husband, Benny; and brother in law of the late Tom DeLuca.
On Sunday, June 2, 2024 all are welcome to attend his calling hours from 2-5 p.m. at Tewksbury Funeral Home, 1 Dewey Street, Tewksbury.
On Monday morning, his funeral will begin at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by his funeral mass at 10 a.m. at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main Street, Tewksbury. Burial will follow at Tewksbury Cemetery.
