Obituary

Doris (Allard) Thomopoulos
Beloved Piano Teacher

LOWELL - Mrs. Doris (Allard) Thomopoulos, 97, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the D’Youville Senior Care facility with members of her loving family by her side.
A wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend: Doris was born on November 13, 1926 in Lowell, Massachusetts a daughter of the late Omer and Aurea (Champagne) Allard. She was the loving wife of 68 years to George Thomopoulos whom she lost on January 1, 2015.
Doris was educated through the Lowell and Lawrence Catholic Schools and studied extensively as a piano teacher under the private tutelage of Jeannette Giguere, Professor Emeritus of the New England Conservatory of Music. Doris taught piano for decades and was very well known and respected in the greater Lowell area. She had a special relationship with her students and their parents. She was able to employ the right amount of discipline and encouragement that allowed her students to achieve great success and enjoyment through their studies. Her mid and year end recitals were greatly anticipated and enjoyed.
She continued to hear from her students long after they left for University and well into their adult lives. Her passing is a great loss to music academia. The only thing Doris enjoyed more than her teaching was being in the company of or talking on the phone with her beloved family and friends. She was proud of every one of them.
Doris was an avid reader and expert crocheter and loved to travel and shop. She was a longtime member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Zappelli and her husband Robert, Brenda Calverley and her husband Carl; her son, Michael Thomopoulos and his partner, Carol Moses; two grandchildren, Carissa Montminy and her husband Kevin, and Bret Calverley and his wife Tiffany; her three great grandchildren, Tyler and Owen Montminy and Trevor Calverley; she also leaves many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Thursday, May 30th, 2024 at Immaculate Conception Church, 114 E. Merrimack Street, Lowell from 9:30 am to 11:00 am.
