Obituary

Catherine Allyson ‘Cathy’ Flaherty, 62 of Lowell passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at High Pointe Hospice House with her family by her side.

She was born in Lowell on December 18, 1961 and was a daughter of the late James P. And Mary C. (Raney) Flaherty. She was raised in the Highlands neighborhood of Lowell, attending St. Peter’s Parochial School and graduating from Lowell High School. She participated in ROTC as a teenager in high school.

Cathy worked as a hairdresser for a short time before working as a secretary at the Bedford VA Hospital, Com Fed, and UMass Lowell. She was a devout Catholic, attending various local churches. She loved to sing, write poetry, and had a passion for art. She devoted her life to putting others before herself. She was helpful to anyone and enjoyed speaking at prisons over the years. Above all, she was a devoted mother who cherished making memories with her family.

She is survived by her beloved son, Denis Connors and his girlfriend, Jennifer Dyer of Groton; her grandchildren, Madison and Miley Connors of Chelmsford.

She is also survived by her 3 siblings, Diane Sheehan and her husband, Robert of Lowell, Patricia Snow and her husband, Roger of Lowell, and Maryann Lennon and her husband, Allen of Lowell; and many nieces, nephews, friends.

Predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Dottie Flaherty; and her Irish Twin brother, James P. "Jimmy" Flaherty, who also passed away recently.

The family would like to express their thanks to her hospice nurse, Cathy, who went above and beyond in her last days.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to a cancer charity of your choice or to Lowell Transitional Living Center, 193 Middlesex Street, Lowell, MA 01852.

On Monday, June 3, 2024 all are welcome to attend her calling hour from 9-10 a.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, 978-458-6816. Her funeral mass will be offered at 11 a.m. at St. Rita’s Church, 158 Mammoth Road, Lowell; followed by burial at St. Patrick Cemetery.
