Joan Marie Seaman, 71, a resident of Derry, NH, passed away at her home on Friday, May 17, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late James Seaman who passed away on September 18, 2021.
Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on December 24, 1952 she was the daughter of the late Leon and Mary (Violet) Landry.
Joan was raised and attended school in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
She spent most of her career working at FedEx until her retirement in 2012. Before finding her home at FedEx, Joan had several short stints in various careers including seamstress, Christmas ornament maker, circuit board assembler, and perhaps most surprisingly for somebody who wasn’t good with directions, taxi driver.
In her spare time, she treasured spending time with her grandchildren. She instilled in them her love of butterflies and pinwheels. To them, she was not just Nana, she was a baseball pitcher, video gamer, and a client in their beauty or nail salon. Joan enjoyed trying her luck at the slot machines at Foxwoods, often becoming so engrossed in her gameplay that her husband once had to call the casino to find her after she lost track of time for 24 hours. She also enjoyed working on puzzles, watching old game shows, and traveling to the mountains with her husband. She believed a “Dunkie’s” coffee and coffee cake muffin could brighten any day.
She is survived by her three sons: Larry Niles, James Niles and his long-time girlfriend Maria, Douglas Niles and his wife Heather; her daughter, Terri Niles and her fiancée Ronnette; and her stepdaughter, Crystal Morrow. She was the grandmother of Liam and Ryley Niles and Christian Niles. She leaves several nieces and nephews and extended family members.
Following cremation, calling hours will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024 from 9am to 11am in the Peabody Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry, with a catholic service to start at 10am in the funeral home.
