Obituary

Penelope Melinda Clarke, age 76, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on May 25, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Penelope was a loving mother, a devoted friend, and a beacon of strength to all who knew her.

Born on July 1, 1947, Penelope lived a life marked by compassion, resilience, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. She served as a County Administrator for Sacramento County, where she played a pivotal role in supporting health and human services. Her tireless efforts positively impacted countless community members in need, and her legacy of service and kindness will be long remembered.

Penelope is survived by her two cherished children, Stephanie (Mayberg) Lander and her husband, Hank Lander, and Christopher Mayberg and his wife, Mercedes (Kloock) Mayberg. She was a proud and loving grandmother to her four grandchildren: Archer, Harriet, Savannah, and Trey. Her legacy of love, strength, and determination lives on through them. Penelope was a guiding light in their lives, always offering wisdom, support, and unconditional love.

A memorial mass will be held on June 8, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Mathew's Catholic Church in Southborough, MA. A celebration of Penelope's life will be held in Sacramento, CA on August 10th, 2024, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and the remarkable impact she had on all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Penelope’s name to the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center earmarked for Cancer Center Advanced Practice Providers or the Laboratory of Phillip Saylor (click here), to continue the fight against the disease she bravely battled.

Penelope Melinda Clarke will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her warmth, strength, and the love she gave to those around her.
