Linda Jean (Seefeld) Nelson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away on May 25, 2024, in Dedham, MA, at the age of 77. Linda was a sweet and gentle soul, known for her kindness and love for her family. She adored her husband, Ronald Nelson, and was a proud and loving mother to her daughter, April Nelson, and grandson, Owen Preston Nelson Cissell. Linda's family meant the world to her.
Linda was born on June 15, 1946, in Winfield, Kansas, to Robert Arthur and Regina Ann Seefeld. She was the second of Robert and Regina’s five children. She spent her formative years in Louisiana, where her father worked on oil rigs. She graduated from Jennings High School in 1964, and shortly thereafter the family moved to Ventura, California. She always remembered fondly the time she worked at a car dealership there as a bookkeeper in the late 1960s, and the time she was the proud owner of her turquoise Ford Mustang. It was in Ventura where she met her husband, Ron, on a fateful blind date. They married on June 14, 1969. In 1979 they moved to Houston, TX, where Linda’s parents then lived. Here Linda dedicated herself to being a loving and supportive stay-at-home mom. Later, she rejoined the workforce at a popular clothing retailer, where she found joy working as an accounts payable clerk in accounting. Linda enjoyed being part of countless large family gatherings throughout the years, whether it was la simple Saturday night barbecue followed by an intense game of poker, or a memorable Christmas celebration with all her siblings from California to North Carolina and their families.
A talented cook and baker, Linda's pecan tarts earned her first place in a baking competition, a moment of pride for her. She hosted many Thanksgiving dinners and was also known for her chocolate-covered strawberry cheesecake that her sister, Cindy, often requested for her birthday. She lived for many years with her sister, Cindy, and was well known and loved as “Aunt Linda” by Cindy’s daughters, Casey and Kelly. She enjoyed reading, taking walks in nature, feeding the deer, and tending to her flowers. Linda's quiet demeanor masked a love for being around people, and she cherished her daily routines.
Linda was so committed to and proud of Ron, a civil engineer, and they enjoyed traveling the country to his work conventions. There was an especially memorable family trip to Unalaska, Alaska in 1996. Linda and Ron were married for 28 loving years until his passing in 1998. She truly loved him until the day she died.
Linda is survived by her daughter, April Nelson, her son-in-law, Adam Cissell, and her grandson, Owen Cissell, of Boston, MA; her brother, Robert Drue Seefeld and sister-in-law Pat Seefeld of NC, her sisters, Susan Seefeld Siple of CA, and Cindy Seefeld Kothmann of TX, her nieces and nephews, Stacie Seefeld Smalling of NC, Edward Darren Siple and Tanner Siple of CA, Chris LeJeune of LA, Kim Casey Kothmann and Kelly Kothmann of TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Owen Nelson, her parents, Robert and Regina Ann Seefeld, and her sister, Sharon Seefeld LeJeune.
A family graveside service will be held in Plainville, Kansas, to honor Linda's life and legacy. Linda will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in her name to American Heart Association, Red Cross, or Alzheimer’s Association.
