Sylvester “Luat” Danh Nguyen, 70, of Worcester, died on Saturday, May 25th at UMass Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his loving wife of 24 years, Mai Dang; his daughter, Jennifer Nguyen; four brothers, Doan Duc Nguyen, Thuan Nguyen, Christopher Quang Nguyen, and Quang Huy Nguyen; a sister, Lien Nguyen; an aunt, Nickie Nguyen; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was born in Hanoi, Vietnam the son of the late Tam Van Nguyen and Can Phi Nguyen. Sylvester proudly served in the Vietnamese Army and immigrated to the United States in 1983. He held various careers, most recently as an auto mechanic until his retirement. Sylvester was a member of Our Lady of Vilna Church. He enjoyed watching soccer, playing and competing in Chinese chess, and occasionally strumming on his guitar. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
His funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 1st beginning at 10:00am in Our Lady of Vilna Church, 153 Sterling Street. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street. His calling hours will be Friday, May 31st from 5:00pm until 8:00pm in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue.
