John Francis Walsh, 97, of Medway died May 23 at his home following a long illness. He was the husband of Nancy A. (Garland) Walsh for the past 44 years.
Born in Xenia, Ohio, March 4, 1927, the son of the late Henry and Catherine (McCurran) Walsh, John was raised in Xenia and had lived in Medway for the past 44 years.
John had been a missionary with the Maryknoll’s in Lima Peru for many years.
John was Director of Personnel of Maryknoll in Ossining, New York.
He later became a Parole Officer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the Shirley Correctional Facility, Framingham Correctional Facility and the Norfolk County House of Correction in Dedham.
John enjoyed canoeing, fishing and traveling, writing poetry, but most of all spending time with his family and close friends.
He especially enjoyed taking cruises with his wife and had taken over 76 cruises around the World.
John and Nancy had visited all 50 of the United States.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Dennis Hodgdon and his wife Theresa of Uxbridge, Dale Hodgdon and his wife Donna of Franklin, Dana Hodgdon and his wife Cathy of Uxbridge, David Hodgdon and his wife Christian of Medway and his daughter-in-law Cynthia Bennett of Ashland.
He was the father of the late Deborah Hodgdon.
John is also survived by his siblings, Jane Ober-Schmidt, and Martha Walsh.
He was the brother of the late Robert Walsh, James Walsh and Margaret Walsh and Mary Walsh.
John is also survived by his grandchildren, Craig Hodgdon, Marc Hodgdon, Jeremie Hodgdon, Patrick Hodgdon, Allen Hodgdon and Kayleigh Anderson and his great-grandchildren, Nico Hodgdon, Sienna Hodgdon and Summer Hodgdon.
His calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 30 in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 3 Barber Street, Medway from 4-7 p.m.
