Bruce Edward Ferg of Quincy, MA passed away on May 15 th , 2024. He was born on November 23, 1949 to Edna (Huston) and Bernard Ferg in Johnstown, PA. He is survived by sister Cathy Freeman (Jeff) Flowery Branch, GA: nephew E. J. Freeman IV(Kate) Atlanta, GA; brothers Ted Ferg (Paula) Peculiar, MO; and Eugene Ferg (Edna Jackson) Oakwood GA. Stepdaughter Jennifer Mack (Manheim), Brookline, MA. Step grandchildren Jackson Cote, Rhys Banfield, Zoe Mack, Haley Mack and Jonas Mack.
His first job was delivering the Johnstown Tribune Democrat newspaper. During college he worked on the Somerset County farm of John Naugle during the summers. He studied piano under Mrs. Mary Hay of Johnstown.
He was a graduate of Ferndale Area High School Johnstown, PA; Brandeis University, Waltham, MA (1967-1971); Northeastern Law School, Boston, MA (1971-1974.)
He worked for the Massachusetts Public Defenders Office / Committee for Public Counsel Services for 30 years. A humble person, Bruce loved hiking in younger years, a good history or political science book and his work. He fought tirelessly for his clients and was well respected as a thought leader as well as an extremely diligent and committed attorney. His sharp intellect, unique sense of humor and devotion to his career and his family will be deeply missed.
There will be a celebration of life in honor of Bruce on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 169 Walnut Street, Brookline, MA 02445 from 1:30 - 4:30 pm.
