Obituary

Ronald "Ron" Wayne Moore
April 21,1943 - May 21, 2024

Ronald “Ron” Wayne Moore died at his Alexandria home in the arms of Janet “Jan” Kay (Whalen) Moore, his wife of 60 years. The two first met at North Anderson Church of God while Ron was attending college. When Janet saw him for the first time, she whispered to her older sister, Sharon, “I’m going to marry that man!”

Ron was born on April 21st, 1943, in Eustis, Florida, to Lloyd B. and Donnie L. Moore. He graduated from Eustis High School in 1961. He then moved to Anderson, Indiana, to attend Anderson College, where he worked to pay his way through school as a pharmaceutical delivery driver for Paynter’s Apothecary and in the business office for the college. He graduated in 1966 with a business degree. Ron would go on to work at Anderson University for forty years. He served as bursar, treasurer, controller, and Vice President for Finance and retired in 2003, although he soon returned to work again for AU for another eight years. His second retirement was in 2011.

In his retirement, Ron spent time with his wife, family, grandchildren, and great-grandson, Gabriel. A special event for the family included a 2013 family trip to Europe. Ron delighted in crossword puzzles, Cincinnati Reds games, and spending time at home in the country watching wildlife and birds. Ron was more than just a dedicated professional. He was known for his gift of listening to and helping others, his fun-loving personality, his love of the beach, and his staunch stance on civil rights. His upbringing in the South during the fifties and sixties shaped his strong beliefs and his unwavering commitment to justice. He was a man of many facets, each one adding to the richness of his character.

Ron is survived by his wife, Janet “Jan” (Whalen) Moore; his adored daughters, Heather Hodson, and Kristen Malone; his treasured sister, Francis Moore Huffer (Robert); treasured grandchildren, Drew Hodson, Mary (Owens) Benitez (Michael), Hannah Hodson, great-grandson Gabriel Benitez, nephews Todd Jenkins (Lori), Kiva Bostrom (Megan) and Troy Whalen, and nieces Kamar Bitar, Caprice Bitar, and Andrea Porter (Chad).

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Carolyn Gilliam, sister-in-law Share Tanzer, and nieces Valori Turner and Chenoa Kai.
