GILFORD ---- June (Ricci) Zavas, 61, of Gilford, NH, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.
June was known by all as a woman who was unapologetically herself, enthusiastic, and authentic. She proudly marched to the beat of her own drum. Her favorite roles in life were being a mother and nana.
She is survived by her daughters, Christina Zavas and her husband Aaron Shimanov, and June Zavas; her granddaughter, Ava Ricci; her sister, Phyllis Ricci; and many members of her extended family. She is predeceased by her son, Alfred Ricci Perry.
June was a talented artist and studied at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She volunteered at Carpenter Elementary School for many years, assisting with kindergarten art classes. June was always creating and expressing her individualism through her crafts and hobbies. Her artistic talents were on display in her home, where she was known to paint, invent, and decorate many areas in her own style.
June was also very passionate about fitness and trained alongside many members of her community at the gym.
On a sunny day, June would undoubtedly be found sunbathing on the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee or outside tending to her garden. She loved soaking up every minute of the day’s sun. She often would be seen driving around town chasing sunrises and sunsets. Otherwise, one would find her gloating over answering a difficult trivia question correctly, ranking first on the leaderboard for her word puzzles, and having a winning hand at cards.
June’s daughters would like to extend extreme gratitude and thanks to all of the friends who supported June during her time of need. June truly appreciated and adored every single person that was part of her community and support group.
In honoring June’s memory, may we all be inspired to live authentically, embrace our passions, and cherish the beauty of each moment, just as she did.
A celebration honoring June’s life will be held at the Carriage House at Church Landing, 281 Daniel Webster Hwy, Meredith, NH, on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at noon.
