Florence M. Scarpaci, 103, of Worcester died Wednesday, May 22nd at Tatnuck Park. She leaves several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, George Scarpaci; two sisters, Catherine Clock and Ann Mocca.
She was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Martocci) Scarpaci. Florence was a dedicated educator, graduating from North High School before earning both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Worcester State Teacher’s College. She continued her academic journey, achieving a Master’s degree of Fine Arts from Assumption College.
Her career in education began in the Millbury Schools, where she inspired countless students as a schoolteacher. Florence’s passion for teaching and commitment to her students led her to Fitchburg State University, where she became a revered professor. She dedicated her life to education and retired in 1981, leaving a legacy to both her colleagues and students.
Florence was a devout member of Blessed Sacrament Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. Her faith and dedication to her church where central to her life and provided her with strength and solace. Known as “Auntie Flo” to many, Florence was the unofficial ambassador of Tatnuck Park, where she actively contributed to the community and fostered a spirit of unity and engagement.
Calling hours are Tuesday, May 28th from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 551 Pleasant Street, Worcester followed by her funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be held in St. John’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brookhaven Hospice, 114 Turnpike Road, Suite 206, Westborough, MA 01581.
