Elaine Ann Kennedy, 86, of Londonderry, passed away unexpectedly on May 21, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late Gerald Kennedy and the loving mother of Susan Ankeny (Philip), Jennifer Scala (TJ) and Alexandra Hasselbrink (Charlie).
Elaine was the treasured daughter of the late Joseph and Elena Russillo and a dear sister to Ronald Russillo and the late Richard Russillo. She was the cherished grandmother to Teddy, Elaine, Charlie, Lucy, Maggie and Abby.
Born Elaine Russillo in Providence, R.I., Elaine went to parochial school for 12 years and upon graduation became a medical secretary. During the evenings she volunteered for Claiborne Pell who was running for U.S. senator of RI.
After Pell was elected, he asked Elaine if she would be interested in working in Washington, D.C. in the executive offices of the White House. She jumped at the opportunity and became a political appointee under President John F. Kennedy and later Lyndon Johnson.
Elaine loved her time in Washington mostly because it was there, she met her future husband and together they would socialize with friends while talking about politics and world events.
She then left Washington to settle down in Londonderry where she would live for the remainder of her life. She had the privilege to work under 3 principals at Londonderry High School. In her early years she was a member of several social groups including the Londonderry Women’s Club, the Progressive Group, and several bridge clubs. After retiring, she spent her time conducting travel tours, volunteering at the Elliot Hospital, playing in her many bridge clubs, and being a greeter at the Palace Theatre. She was also a performer in the Silver Stars Theatre group where she was able to express her inner actress and musical talent.
Elaine enjoyed traveling the world with friends and family and had exciting adventures in Spain, Italy, England, France, Hawaii, Alaska, Costa Rica, Mexico, Africa and China.
Elaine’s greatest joy in life was her family. Her devotion to her loved ones was unparalleled and her presence brought warmth and laughter to every gathering.
Her love knew no bounds and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
