Obituary

Quiet, patient, loyal, knowledgeable, and kind; traits that would describe Edmund Julius Markevicius. Edmund died tranquilly with family at his side on Friday, May 17, 2024, in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester. Born in Kaunas, Lithuania, a son of Balys and Ona (Papendikaite) Markevicius, he immigrated to the United States in 1949 after living in Germany during World War II. His family first settled in Patten, Maine and later found their way to Worcester. Edmund attended North High School and upon graduation enlisted in the Army followed by the Reserves from 1960-1966. In Ed's early years, he worked for Kraska Auto Parts and eventually became a sales representative for Moog Automotive of Saint Louis, MO. He worked there until his retirement in 1990. Along with his wife, Ed was active with the Lithuanian community and its organizations. He was a member of the Lithuanian Charitable Society, Maironis Park, Knights of Lithuania #26, St. Casimir Parish Choir and the Lithuanian Scout Association of Worcester, MA. He was a member of the former St. Casimir’s Church and currently belongs to Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Ed was a soft-spoken family man who loved to travel. He was proud to be an American and never lost pride in his Lithuanian heritage and culture. He was gratified with his family and enjoyed being an active part of watching it grow over the years.

He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-one years, Irene J. (Kausevicius) Markevicius; daughter Linda Aiello and her husband John of Thompson, CT; son Edmund A. Markevicius and his wife Marthafaye Stone of Cape Coral, FL; two grandchildren, Michael J. Aiello and his wife, Samantha Lipkin-Aiello of Pomfret, CT and his granddaughter, Elana L. Aiello of Auburn, MA. Edmund also leaves his great granddaughter, Eliza Mae Aiello;a sister Maia Daly of Weymouth, MA, and cousins and special friends in Lithuania. He also leaves his many local friends, special lifelong friends Ed and Marilyn McTighe and the McDonald's coffee club.
Calling hours in DIRSA MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton Street will be on Friday, May 31, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A funeral Mass will be on Saturday, June 1, 2024,at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, 162 Webster St., Worcester, MA.
