Obituary

LACONIA — Marie (Donovan) Nersesian died May 5, 2024, at her home in Laconia after living valiantly with ovarian cancer for seven years.

She was born Sept. 14, 1954, to Francis and Jean (Taylor) Donovan. Following the early deaths of both her father and her grandfather, she grew up with her mother and grandmother, Inez (Carpenter) Taylor, in the Medford, Massachusetts, area, and graduated from Winchester High School and from Boston College, achieving cum laude honors.

The strong bond of three generations of women sustained her throughout her life, as did her love of animals. The family household always included cats and dogs and she spent much time riding and caring for horses.

As an adult, Marie overcame an anxiety disorder and went on to successfully pursue certification from the Kentucky Equine Institute, racehorse ownership and management, development of the Elvis Memphis Style fan club and a position as a licensed investment representative, where she earned praise from both clients and supervisors as an excellent problem solver.

She was always learning, whether studying a foreign language or keeping up with world news and global issues. In recent years Marie enjoyed Carpenter family gatherings and family history exploration in letters, journals, and cemeteries in the Littleton area.

Marie was predeceased by her husband of 33 years, Richard Nersesian, as well as by her mother and grandmother.
Marie cared with a passion for those who are uncaringly and inhumanely treated, whether animal, person, or an oppressed people. Donations honoring her may be given to Poor Guy’s Cat Rescue (poorguyscatrescue.org) or to any humanitarian concern.

Much appreciation goes to Lakes Region VNA Hospice and to steadfast friends who supported her during health challenges, especially Marie’s caregiver Pam Laboe.
