Aureo Bundalian Alviar (Al) 91 of Ventura, California passed away peacefully on Sunday May 19, 2024 at Community Hospital. Aureo was born in San Pablo City of the Philippines to Melicia and Pablo Alviar on October 9, 1932.
He attended Ateneo San Pablo High School in San Pablo City, Philippines and graduated as an Exemplary Student and pursued his College education at Ateneo de Manila for Journalism. Half way through College he got called upon by the United States Military to serve for them. After Boot Camp he continued his Education at Fordham University in New York. He then got transferred to Europe with the United States Coast Guard on the ship
known as “The Courier.” Al continued his loyal and devoted relationship to his shipmates of United States Coast Guard Ship “The Courier” to this very day.
After 20 years of service he chose to continue his education with a focus on Hospitality and Hotel Restaurant Management. Aureo then became a teaching instructor in the same program he graduated from. He taught at Santa Barbara City College for 20 years and Saint Thomas Aquinas for 2 years as Food Service Director. He then moved on to continue his passion for teaching Hotel Restaurant Management at Oxnard College for several years until his retirement.
Al is survived by his wife Lourdes Alviar, and children Pablo Alviar and Lisa (Brian) Lundy. His grandchildren Katherine, Griffin (Holly) Lundy and Hannah Wallis. Al is preceded in death by his parents, 8 siblings, and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Community Hospital in Ventura. As Al’s favorite saying goes, “Do not regret being old, it’s a privilege denied to many!”

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours to be held on Thursday evening May 30, 2024, from 4 to 8pm in the BOYKO & REARDON TELEGRAPH ROAD MORTUARY, 15 Teloma Drive, Ventura, where a Most Holy Rosary will be recited by Fr. Matthew Miguel at 4:30pm in the Mortuary Chapel. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00pm on Friday, May 31, 2024, in Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 3175 Telegraph Road, Ventura. A reception will follow.
