Obituary

Mary E. (Healey) Jenkins, 72, of Dudley, an exceptional educator and cherished community member died Thursday, May 16th in Harrington Hospital following a brief battle with cancer. She leaves her husband of 42 years, Earle M. “Skip” Jenkins, Jr.; a son, Michael E. Jenkins of Dudley; a sister, Deborah Hazzard and her husband, Roger of Auburn; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Ann E. Miller.
She was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late James R. and Ann E. (Black) Healey. Mary was a proud graduate of Marian High School and went on to earn a master’s degree from Worcester State College, reflecting on her commitment to lifelong learning. She was a beloved member of Dudley Elementary School, where she devoted 42 years of her life to teaching. Mary was affectionately known as the “Math Wizard” leaving behind a legacy of dedication and passion for education. Her favorite subject to teach was math. After her retirement, she continued to serve the community as a substitute teacher, bringing her love for teaching and her infectious enthusiasm back into the classroom.
Mary was an active member of St. Louis Church, Webster where she also taught CCD. Her faith and dedication to her community were evident. She found joy in simple pleasures, such as attending auto racing events with her family, visiting casinos, and indulging in her passion for scratch tickets. In her younger years, Mary was an avid tennis player, a testament to her vibrant spirit and love for activity.
Mary’s life was a testament to the power of education, faith, and community. She leaves behind a family, friends, and countless students whose lives she touched with her wisdom and kindness.
Her funeral is Wednesday, May 29th with a service at 10:00 a.m. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue, Paxton. Calling hours are Tuesday, May 28th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
