SOUTH HADLEY – Carol A. (Couture) Menard, 85, a longtime resident of South Hadley, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, May 16, 2024. She passed into Eternal Life at The Reserve in East Longmeadow surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on August 24, 1938, the beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian (Racine) Couture. She was raised and educated in Holyoke and moved to the Willimansett section of Chicopee in 1960 where she lived until moving to South Hadley in 1965. She was a waitress at Friendly's in the former Fairfield Mall in Chicopee prior to working as an Administrative Assistant in the Development Office at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley for over 24 years, retiring in 2008. She was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Fairview. She was loved to tend to her beautiful flower beds and took great pride in keeping an immaculate home. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, George W. Menard who was Called Home on November 12, 2009. They were married at the former Precious Blood Church in South Holyoke on May 28, 1960 and were blessed with over 49 years of happiness together. She leaves her two loving children, Kimberly A. O’Flaherty of Reading, MA and Scott C. Menard and his wife, Kristen, of Somers, CT; her three cherished grandchildren, Meaghanne O'Flaherty-Gean, Julianna O’Flaherty, and Adam Menard; and her extended family members and friends. Her family would like to extend a heart-felt thanks to Carol's former neighbors, Martha Dunn and her late husband, James, for their friendship, love and care over the years, as well as the staff at The Reserve in East Longmeadow, Dr. May Awkal-Matisewski and her staff, and Beacon Hospice for the care and compassion that was given to Carol and her family. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, 413-533-3307, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
