Obituary

Costella (Watkins) Mays, 81 a resident of Dorchester, Ma was born in Bessemer, Alabama on August 10th, 1942 to Robert and Ruth Mae Watkins.

Costella received her high school diploma from Dumbar High School in 1959. During her lifetime she was able to complete courses to attain certificates in secretarial administrative and home health aid. Costella first job in Boston was working at Spencer & Kennedy Electronics Laboratory. After some time Costella held different job positions like being a bus monitor, home health aide and lastly having a career working for the MBTA as a bus driver, train door operator and a fare collector.

On August 26, 1962, Costella married Billy Lawrence Mays, and through this union, 3 children were born, William Lawrence, Kenneth Lewis, and Lisa Michelle Mays.

In her free time, Costella could be found baking her wonderful and delicious cakes, pies and cookies in her kitchen. She also loved to bargain shop, antiquing and sewing.

Costella was a woman of kindness, love, joy, resilience and a great sense of humor. She enjoyed being surrounded by people. Costella had a good heart and would not hesitate to help or do anything for the ones she loved.

Her resilience got her though many obstacles she faced and is the foundation of the legacy she instilled. Costella is preceded in death by her husband, Billy L. Mays, and sons William L and Kenneth l. Mays.
Family members left behind include her daughter, Lisa M. Mays; her sister, Alice (Watkins) Hamilton; and two grandchildren Kendra L. Enaharo and Branden K. Pitt: and two nephews Bertram C. and Donnell A. Hamilton and a host of cousins.

Costella was faithful and dedicated servant of Jehovah for over 60 years, she was passionate about talking to people about the Bible’s hope for mankind. Many will remember Costella for her gentle, loving words of encouragement. She was full of life and laughter even during her time of sickness. Costella still showed love to others, and she will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Visiting hours will be held in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, 49 Winthrop Street in Roxbury from 10:30am to 11am. Services will begin promptly at 11am. Followed by interment in Oaklawn Cemetery on Cummins Highway, Boston.
