Nathan Alan Evans was born on March 20, 2001 to Jason and Christi Evans. He was joined in 2003 by his sister, Anna, who quickly became and has always remained his favorite playmate, confidante, friend, and companion. Nathan’s name means “Gift from God,” and from the moment he entered this world he has been a true gift to his family and to everyone whose life he has touched. His infectious smile and laugh could light up a room. He was the center of his family’s world.
Nathan loved Super Heroes, Thomas the Train, Super Mario Brothers, Winnie the Pooh, Disney movies and Veggie Tales. Nathan loved to read, and you would always see him carrying a stack of books around when he was younger. His favorite book of all to read was his Children’s Bible where could tell you all about Jesus’ life and love. He also loved to ride his tricycle and drive his go-cart. Nathan loved to sing, and his favorite song of all time was Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer because Christmas was his favorite time of the year.
Nathan was homeschooled by his mother, before attending classes at CHESS Academy, and later graduating from Turner County High School where he had some wonderful teachers.
Nathan passed away at his home on May 11, 2024 at the age of 23 surrounded by his family. Survivors include his parents, Jason and Christi Evans of Arp Georgia, sister, Anna Evans, grandparents, Jim and Sandra Wiley of Ashburn, Georgia, grandmother, Elise Arthur of Ocilla, GA, Uncle and Aunt, Jamie and Michele Wiley of Tifton, GA and cousins, Austen Wiley of Ft. Walton Beach, FL and Libby Wiley of Tifton, GA. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Guy Evans and Uncle, Alan Evans.
Nathan never had the chance at a developmentally normal or long life due to the rare genetic disease with which he was born called Sanfilippo Syndrome, MPS III - Type A. We hope Nathan’s life and journey will help bring awareness to others about this devastating disease as we continue the fight to develop treatments for it and hopefully one day a cure. The family is requesting in lieu of flowers that donations be made to either the Cure Sanfilippo Foundation or the National MPS Foundation in memory of Nathan Evans.
The family would like to thank Ms. Michelle Spears, CNA, of Ashburn, GA and Hospice of Tiftarea for providing such loving medical care to Nathan.
