Alvin L. Strom, Sr., 91, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, May 11, 2024, at The Landings in Douglas, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Greg Pope officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Strom was born April 3, 1933, in Cumberland, Kentucky, to the late John Strom and the late Estelle Bibbs Strom Boggs. He served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, being stationed in Korea, California and the Marshall Islands. Following his military service, Mr. Strom earned his Bachelors degree from the University of Tennessee. He was a lifelong educator teaching mostly Chemistry for over 30 years in Knoxville, Tennessee, Cumberland, Kentucky, and Fitzgerald, Georgia, moving here in 1985. He was an advisor to and very active in the Key Club. Mr. Strom enjoyed providing the lighting for local theater productions and also worked as a security guard at Delphi. He served as curator for the Blue & Gray Museum and was a member of First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Chip & Selena Strom of Pearson; two grandsons: Caleb Harrell Strom and Jacob Wesley Strom; a sister, Marcel Boggs of Lexington, Kentucky; and a brother, George Boggs of Harlan County, Kentucky. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret W. Strom; and a brother, Jimmy Boggs.
