Obituary

Robert A. "Bob" Flaxington, 80, of Lakeview Drive, Greenville, joined his wife, Anna F. (Farrar) Flaxington in eternity on May 9th, 2024.

Born in Central Falls, he was the son of the late Albert R. and Dorothy (Jackson) Flaxington. Bob joined the Navy in 1961, which began his love of adventure. His enlistment as a Machinist Second Class aboard the U.S.S. Blandy allowed him tours through Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and various ports in the Indian Ocean. Upon his honorable discharge in 1966, he returned to Rhode Island and his new wife, Anna.

Bob and Anna settled down in Greenville where they lived for 57 years, and had five daughters. Bob continued his work as a Machinist at New Machine and Electric, Hammond & Barry and The Foundry. His daughters would often say he could fix just about anything. He supported his community as a volunteer firefighter for the Fairlawn Fire Department. Bob and Anna spent as much time as possible boating and camping throughout North America; bringing along their daughters, friends and eventually the grandchildren on their many adventures. Bob also loved cars of all types: stock cars and race cars in particular, and enjoyed working on them whenever possible.

He is survived by his four daughters: Julie Flaxington of Glocester, Angela Flaxington, Cyndi Dragon and Barbara Andrews all of Smithfield; five grandchildren, a great-grandchild with two more on the way, and a sister, Judy Rodgers of North Providence. In addition to his loving wife of 54 years, he is welcomed into heaven by his late parents, daughter Loretta Flaxington, and sister Elaine McCreadie.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 15th 4-7pm in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt. 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Funeral Services will be private.
