Born July 20, 1928, in Gainesville, Mr. Burnett was the son of the late Welborn Burnett and Ethel Lunsford Burnett. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sara Elizabeth Medford Burnett, who passed away in 2019; one son, Joe Grady Burnett; three brothers, James Burnett, J. W. Burnett, and Paul Burnett; and one sister, Joyce Railey. He was a retired farmer; and he was a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church.
In a world characterized more and more by hate, violence, greed and egos, a kind and gentle man has passed to his reward. Robert Emanuel Burnett lived his life without jealousy, anger, or spite. His joy came from watching his crops, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow. A Navy veteran, he was a member of the greatest generation. He taught all that knew him with words, but most importantly, through Christian example. His positive attitude and wit remained right up till the end of his amazing life.
Mr. Burnett is survived by one son, Mike Burnett of Tifton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Dr. Steve Brown and Liz and John Whiddon, all of Eldorado; five grandchildren and their spouses, Anne and Zack Veazey, Flynt and Paige Owens, Katy and Evan Warren, Robert and Nellie Owens and Rebekah Harper; and ten great-grandchildren, Tess Veazey, Marlee Veazey, Raelyn Owens, Ella Moore, Smith Owens, Edey Warren, Charlie Warren, Jacob Gilmer, Mac Owens and Henry Owens.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Traditions Hospice, and his special friend and caregiver, Christine Weaver, for their gentle and loving care of Mr. Burnett.
