Mr. Cecel F. Furey, a resident of Woburn, formerly of Medford and beloved husband of the late Kathleen Furey, passed away at his home on Thursday morning, May 9, 2024. He was 89 years old.
Cecel was born in Medford, Massachusetts on April 12, 1935. He was the beloved son of the late Armon and Dorothy (Johnson) Furey.
Cecel was well known in the neighborhood as an active athletic young man, even playing some basketball in high school. He graduated from Medford High School in 1952 and later earned an Associate’s Degree in Engineering from North Eastern University. Cecel was a very industrious young man and enjoyed a career of 46 years work in Raytheon’s Engineering Department, as well as a 36 year part-time career with the US Postal Service. Away from the workplace, Cecel was a Cubmaster Boy Scout Troop # 428 for 10 years and also enjoyed music and signing. Cecel has been happily retired since 1998. He enjoyed gardening around his home, visiting the West Medford Community Center and spending time with his many friends. He looked forward to his weekly Wednesday night meet ups at Dunkin’ Donuts in Arlington, with some of his closest buddies as well. Cecel was a longtime and active participant of the West Medford Baptist Church in Medford. Above all, he was a very devoted husband and father. He will be dearly missed.
Cecel and his first wife, Bette Furey Chisholm had five children; Denyse C. (and twin sister, Diane Elise, deceased) and her husband Ervin Tate of Boca Raton, Florida, Karen T. Furey-Johnson of California, Linda C. Furey of Everett and Peter L. and his wife Gina A. Furey of Londonderry, New Hampshire, grandchildren; Charlene, Ali, Mo, Seth, Millisent, Crystal, Elliette and Danny, great-grandchildren; Alexander, Benjamin, Sirianna, Giovanni and Aya. Cecel is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Armon and Robert Furey, Hilda Janice Works and Warren Furey.
His Funeral Service will be held in the West Medford Baptist Church, 59 Boston Avenue, Medford on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 11 AM, with viewing starting at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Visiting hours will be held in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. Donations in Cecel's memory may be made to the West Medford Baptist Church, 59 Boston Avenue, Medford, MA 02155.
