In Loving Memory of Katherine (Kate) Farrell Hetherington Walker, beloved Daughter, Sister, Mother, Aunt and Cherished Grandmother.
Kate, a beacon of love and inspiration, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2024 at the age of 86. She gracefully transitioned from this world surrounded by the warmth of her family, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Born on April 26, 1938, Kate was a shining light in the lives of all who knew her. Kate was a lifelong educator and began her teaching career in 1960 in Madison, Connecticut. She devoted her life to the noble profession of teaching, shaping the minds and hearts of countless individuals throughout her distinguished career. Kate was known for her unwavering commitment to teaching reading, boundless patience, and her ability to inspire and empower students to reach their full potential.
Kate married the love of her life, John Ernest Walker on April 3, 1961 and they just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Kate was not only a devoted wife, mother, aunt and sister, but also a cherished Nana. She delighted in the laughter of her grandchildren and took immense pride in watching them grow. Her love for them knew no bounds, and her unending caring, kindness and compassion will continue to live on in their hearts.
Kate is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, John Walker; her loving daughter, Traci Walker Griffith and her husband John of Charlestown and son, Garrett Walker and his wife Cate of North Carolina. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Joey and Elizabeth Griffith, Brendan and Bridget Walker; her dear sister, Patricia O’Hara of Connecticut and dear sister-in-law Marcia Walker of Medfield as well as many nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to know her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Kate's visiting hours on Wednesday morning, May 15, 2024, from 9:30 A.M. to 11:30A.M. in the Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass at 12 Noon in St. Francis de Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown. Her burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, kindly make a memorial donation in Kate's name to St. Francis De Sales Church Building Fund, 46 Winthrop St. Charlestown, Mass. 02129
