Kelvin Nicholas Simon, affectionately known as Nick, was born September 11, 1949 to parents Edward and Leorta and was one of thirteen children. Though his upbringing in Whiteland, Trinidad, West Indies was humble, it was full of love. Kelvin recalled long, fun walks to Eccles Village where he attended school.
In the early 1970s, Kelvin trusted the Lord as his Savior and attended many gospel conferences in different parts of Trinidad. It was at one of those conferences, that he met Hazel Paul. Kelvin immigrated to Boston, Massachusetts in the winter of 1978 and it was there that he wrote to Hazel to ask for her hand in marriage. Kelvin and Hazel were married July 25, 1980 in Orange Field Road Gospel Hall. She later joined him and his family in Boston in 1982. They had two daughters, Neela and Alyca. Kelvin was a devoted father, who spent countless hours teaching his daughters everything from the infamous Red Book, also known as the West Indian Reader. He was also dedicated to teaching them mental math, which served them throughout their schooling and continues to this day.
On Kelvin’s arrival to Boston, he continued fellowship at Community Gospel Chapel in Roxbury, Massachusetts. He was active in the Sunday School and provided transportation for members and Sunday School children. Some of children may recall trips to 40 Flavors Ice Cream on a nice summer’s day and famous pizza parties as a reward for good behavior. Kelvin faithfully attended and was part of the ministry at CGC for many years.
While Kelvin worked a variety of jobs from machinery at Hesse Machine to transporting special needs persons, his passion was in real estate. He spent most of his real estate career at Creative Properties in Dedham, Massachusetts and Crystal Reality in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Being a grandfather may have been Kelvin’s greatest joy. He dedicated much of his last 23 years helping to raise his granddaughter Kayla and grandson Tariq. He loved and cared for them just as much as his daughters and taught them the fundamentals of reading, writing and mathematics.
Kelvin enjoyed time spent with family and friends, especially hosting annual 4th of July barbeques with his wife and daughters. He also loved cheering on his beloved New England Patriots, even just listening to the games, he would be able to give you a play by play.
Kelvin passed away May 7th 2024 at the age of 74 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Prudence, Lenox, Joseph, Lenor and Kenny. His memory will be forever held in hearts of his wife, Hazel, daughters, Neela and Alyca, grandchildren Kayla and Tariq, son-in-law, Trevone, sisters Cynthia, Eileen, Emlyn, Annette and Ula and brothers Michael and Steve, along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ.
