James F. Callaghan, Sr. age 78 of Brockton, died on May 6, 2024, at South Shore Hospital after a period of failing health. He was the devoted husband of 47 years of the late Cheryl A. (Rose) Callaghan who died in 2011. Jim was born in New Bedford and raised in Brockton, a son of the late Thomas and Mary Dorothy (Morrill) Callaghan, and remained a lifelong resident of the city.
After graduating from Brockton High School, Jim began a career in electronics. He owned Ackerman TV in Brockton and worked for Atlantic Systems in Hanover until he retired.
Jim enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, Aruba, and Atlantic City—and family vacations on Cape Cod. He loved playing golf, boating, and going to the Raynham dog track with friends. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a proud father and grandfather.
Jim was the father of James F. Callaghan, Jr. and his wife Sandy and Christine M. Peterson and her husband Mark Peterson. He was the grandfather of Christopher Hebb, Brad Peterson, and his wife Carolyn, Ryan Peterson, and Kyle Peterson. He also leaves his great grandson Jack Gregory Peterson. Jim was also the brother of Thomas Callaghan, John Callaghan, Dorothy Damon, Margret Callaghan Eisnor, and the late Mary Maureen DiCarlo.
