Elva Louise Vanner, 92, of Sherwood Lane, Greenville, died Monday, May 6, 2024 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. She was the widow of Thomas B. Vanner, who died in 2011. They had been married for 63 years at the time of his death.
Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Thelma (Boyes) Phillips. Elva had lived in Greenville since 1964.
Elva was an avid Golfer and a former member of the Glocester Country Club. At one time she owed her own clothing boutique. Her family remembers her as a talented seamstress often taking care of their alterations.
She is survived by her son, Frank C. Vanner of Greenville, her grandchildren: Dawn, Mary, Stacy and Thomas Vanner, a great grandson, Kaleb, her brother, Howard Phillips of California and a daughter-in-law, Patricia E. (Paquette) Vanner. She was the mother of the late Thomas J. Vanner and June M. Smith, mother-in-law of the late Tammy A. Vanner and grandmother of the late Tyler Vanner.
Her funeral will be held Friday at 10am from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Requiem Eucharist at 11am in St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 1 Smith Avenue, Greenville. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Visitation Thursday, 4-7pm.
