It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James J. McGoff of Wareham and South Boston, MA who passed away at the age of 52 on May 6, 2024 after a sudden and aggressive bout with lung cancer.
James was born and raised in South Boston on May 24, 1971, and was the son of Irene (Zarrillo) McGuire and the late Michael J. McGoff. He is survived by his devoted brother, Michael A. McGoff, his sister-in-law, Laura McGoff, and his niece, Taylor McGoff, of Winchester, MA, and his nephews, Cullen McGoff, of South Boston, and the late Brendan McGoff. James was the loving nephew of Viola Harrison, of Wareham, MA, Adeline Harrison, of South Boston, MA, and the late Helen Buccella and Valentino Zarillo. Prior to his death, he was living with his aunt Viola as her caretaker.
James was a great storyteller. He possessed a quit wit, an infectious and approachable sense of humor, and developed a tough exterior having grown up in the lower end of ‘Southie’ in the OC projects in the 1970’s and 1980’s. This resiliency and fighting spirit shown through to the end in his battle with cancer.
Always a romantic, yet hopelessly single, James had several long-term relationships throughout his life. He enjoyed spending time with extended family and had a passion for screen acting. He studied as an auto tech earlier in life and had a general love for cars.
There will be a visitation from 2:00-4:00 PM on Saturday May 11 at the Casper Funeral Home, 187 Dorchester St, South Boston.
