Judith A. (Smedile) Lewis, 84, of Halifax, MA passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham, after a battle with leukemia.
Born in Dorchester, MA on November 11, 1939, she was the third child of the late Charles P. Smedile and Edith (Clark) Smedile.
Judith graduated from Braintree High in 1957. She had many professions over the years, until finding her passion working as a home health aide. She worked for over 30 years at a local VNA’s and loved caring for her clients. Creating lasting relationships with some.
Judith was very artistic and enjoyed doing crafts, from cake decorating, ceramics, wood working, and knitting, and so much more. Her true talent was in writing poetry and short stories. She had a special gift for this, even having one of her poems published.
She had a great love for all animals, from raising live stock and running a farm while raising her children, to breeding pugs and ragdoll cats. She spent her entire life surrounded by animals.
Judith is predeceased by her late husband Wesley F. Lewis and her daughter Marie A. (Lewis) Welch, sister Mariam (Smedile) Gannon, and brother John Smedile.
Judith leaves behind two sisters, Mary Claire Smedile of Whitman, MA, and Susan (Smedile) Berry of Lexington, NC, and brother Charles Smedile of Whitman, MA. As well as two daughters, Pamela (Lewis) Pettingell of Sweden, ME and Stefanie A. Lewis of Taunton, MA. She also leaves behind 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a funeral service to be held Friday, May 10th at 9:15 AM at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 AM at St. Bridget’s Church, 455 Plymouth Street, Abington. Burial will be held at Blue Hills Cemetery, 700 West Street, Braintree.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
