Obituary

“USEdward F. "Ed" Sullivan, a long time resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Monday, May 6, 2024, at his home in Charlestown after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 84 years of age.

Ed was born on March 24, 1940, a son of the late Francis and Mary (Mullins) Sullivan. He grew up in Boston’s Mission Hill section of the City where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from the Boston Trade High School. He enlisted in the United States Army on November 20, 1963 and served his country faithfully during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged on November 15, 1965 with the rank of Specialist. Ed was a dedicated employee and worked for over 30 years at the U.S. Postal Service in Norwood, MA. A life long Boston sports fan with a strong love/hate relationship with the Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed his weekly card games with his long time Mission Hill friends, Frank Barry and the late Bob Mason and above all else spending time with his family.

Ed is the beloved husband of the late Mary L. (Krupcheck) Sullivan. He is the devoted father of Edward Sullivan, Jr. and his wife Colleen, Paul Sullivan, Robert Sullivan, MaryEllen Wood and Terry and Ronnie Wood. Loving grandpa to Hannah, Reghan and Braden. He is the beloved brother to the late Margaret and Tony Janulewicz, Helen and Fred Donahue, Catherine (Josie) and Bill Curry and Frances (Franny) Dodge and former husband Willard (Sonny). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ed's funeral on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 9 A.M. from the Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 A.M. in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown. His burial will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery in West Roxbury. His visiting hours will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024 from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
