Virgil Lewis Johnson, 81, of Tifton passed away Monday, May 6, 2024, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2024, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Keith Norris officiating. Kenneth Boone will offer a eulogy. Mr. Johnson will be laid to rest at Omega Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Daniel Lamb, Willis Marchant, Steven Lommerse, Wesley Lassiter, Chris Hudgins and Stacy Aultman will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Joy Sunday School Class and other members of Eastside Baptist Church in Tifton.
Born June 6, 1942, in Dooly County, Mr. Johnson was the son of the late Lewis Johnson and Minnie Kate Carr Johnson. He was also preceded in death by one son, Craig Lewis Johnson. He was the owner and operator of The Repair Shop in Tifton. He was an ordained deacon; and he was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Tifton. He enjoyed being a mechanic and a farmer. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Vietnam.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda Conley Johnson of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Jamie and Tammy Dillard of Tifton; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Shannon and Bruce Giddens, Tonia and Tim Carpenter and Mendy Dillard, all of Tifton; twelve grandchildren and their spouses, James and Chelsea Dillard, Jessica and Justin Hayles, Justin and Chelsea Hasty, Kelly and Lucas Hand, Daniel and Tiffany Lamb, Kinsley Giddens, Tori and Nick Hargett, Jacob Giddens, Jenna Giddens, Katie LeeAnn and Griffin Martin, T. J. Carpenter and his friend, Danielle Rinberger and Christine Carpenter and her fiance', Britt Rivenbark; and nine great-grandchildren, Chandler Dillard, Brynton Hayles, Trace Hayles, Barrett Hand, Breanna Lamb, Braylee Lamb, Champ Lamb, John Hargett and Jennie Claire Martin.
