WINDHAM- Richard "Dick" Albert Vaccaro, age 75, passed away on May 3, 2024, surrounded by family after his amazing and inspiring, extended battle with cancer.
He was born in Beverly, Massachusetts on April 27, 1949, the second son of the late Guisseppe and Mary (Goodwin) Vaccaro. Overcoming a challenging childhood, he graduated from Beverly High School and married Maureen Hand. He was grateful to have suffered a fluke broken ankle which prevented him from going to Vietnam.
He was a carpenter before proudly earning his First Class Fireman license and worked for decades as a Boiler Room Engineer. After retiring he enjoyed several years in Ormond Beach, Florida before moving to Windham, Maine to be closer to his New England family.
“Dicky V” was well known as a kind and outgoing friend to everyone he met. He adored his dog, Ginger, with all of his heart. Always appreciative of the simple things in life, he’d often look around and say, “How lucky are we?” He loved music, from playing harmonica in bar bands to becoming a true audiophile and collector of records and hifi stereo equipment.
He also enjoyed sports; playing pool, bowling, horseshoes, and winning MVP of his dart league multiple times. As a lifelong fan of the Celtics, Bruins, Sox, and Pats, nothing was better than spinning some vinyl while watching the game on mute with the sunset over the water in the background. Every one of us close to him will always hear him signing off with his signature– “Peace!”
Mr. Vaccaro is survived by his wife— Maureen; his sons— John and Michael; his siblings— Joe and Joyce and like-a-brother Earle Hand; countless in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
