Obituary

TILTON, Donald K. Of Marco Island, FL, formerly of Wellesley, MA, April 28, 2024.

Raised in Needham, MA, Don enjoyed his youth spending summers at White Sands on Lake Winnipesaukee with his brother and sister, Frank Freeman and Ruth (Freeman) Hemp.

After proudly serving in the U.S. Army stationed in Berlin, Don began a long career working in US Customs at Logan Airport in Boston. He and his wife Pauline settled in Wellesley and raised their two children, Kristine and Donald. Don and Pauline achieved their dream to retire to Marco Island, Florida.

Don was a great storyteller who loved “spinning yarns” about his many life adventures. He loved trips to Duxbury Beach, vacations on the island of Nantucket and was a big NASCAR racing fan, especially the experience of attending the Daytona track race clinic. In his later years, he appreciated the company of his good friends and neighbors on Marco Island and enjoyed many trips and cruises with his companion, Dottie.

Don is predeceased by his beloved wife of 43 years, Pauline (McCourt) Tilton. Survived by his brother, Frank Freeman of Thornton, NH; his sister, Ruth (Freeman) Hemp of Sebastian, FL; and his children Kristine P. Tilton and Donald Tilton and wife Deanna of Natick.

A visitation will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt.16) Wellesley on Wednesday, May 8 from 9:00-10:30am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Paul Church, Wellesley at 11:00am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley.

A local celebration of Don’s life will be held on Marco Island at a future date.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Don's memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital st.jude.org/donatetoday
