TEWKSBURY: John A. “Jack” White, III, age 81, recently of Gloucester, a former longtime Tewksbury resident, passed away at Masconomet Healthcare in Topsfield, following a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
He was the beloved husband of Marcia T. (Cole) White, with whom he shared 26 years of marriage.
Born in Cambridge on January 19, 1943, he was the son of the late John A. White, Jr. and the late Eleanor L. (McCarthy) White.
Jack was raised in Tewksbury and graduated from Tewksbury High School. He later attended Lowell Tech (U.Mass-Lowell).
In 1964, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was awarded several decorations for his active-duty service including the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Rifle Expert Badge and the Medical Badge.
He resided in Tewksbury for many years until moving to Melrose, San Diego, CA, Wilmot, NH and finally to Gloucester 4 years ago.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a project manager for Draper Lab in Cambridge.
Jack enjoyed cycling, photography, travel, hiking, and camping.
In addition to his wife, he leaves four children, Margaret Ann White and her husband John Locke, of Stoneham, Gregory White and his wife Julissa, of Cambridge, Jeffrey White and his wife Carolyn, of Melrose, and Jennifer White, of Andover: his grandchildren, Jeffrey Lynch, Liam Locke, Calvin White, Sophia White, Cameron White, Jackelyn Lynch, Alexa White, Vera White, and Derrick Smith. He was the brother of the late Eleanor M. Celino and her surviving husband James Celino, of Dracut, Linda D. (White) Roy and her husband Ron, of Kennebunk, ME, Wayne R. White and his late wife Anne C. (Flood), of Lowell, the late Carol J. (White) Driscoll and her late husband Larry, William D. White and his wife Connie (Frenchetta), of Dade City, FL, Gerald P. White and his wife Donna (Bagnulo), of North Andover, Bryan J. White and his late wife Marianne (O’Malley), of (Weston, FL, the late Diane White, Judith A. (White) DesMeules and her husband Robert, of Biddeford, ME, and Kevin J. White, of Lowell. He leaves many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Calling hours are Tuesday, May 7th, from 4-7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. His funeral procession will begin on Wednesday, May 8th, at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main Street, Route 38, Tewksbury.
