Ailene Ruth Sherman Orcutt Marshall passed away on May 1, 2024, at Cape Heritage Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Sandwich, MA. Born on October 14, 1926, Ailene was at the ripe old age of 97. She had a very long and adventurous life which included two husbands, Kenneth Orcutt and Richard Marshall, both veterans and both deceased.
Ailene was predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Lerola Sherman. She was born in Elmira, NY, but spent most of her life as a resident of Whitman, MA, where she graduated high school. During the second world war, she worked after school assembling hand grenades. One of her fondest memories was being a USO volunteer and dancing with the young troops before they were deployed to fight in WWII.
Ailene was preceded in death by three children: Linda, James (Roberta), and Christopher (Laura) Orcutt.
Ailene is survived by two children: Kenneth Kilburn Orcutt, Jr. (Laine) of Greenwood, SC, and Tammy Marshall of Whitman, MA. Seven grandchildren: Christopher Orcutt (Lisa), Timothy Orcutt, Adeline Orcutt, Glen Orcutt, Robert Orcutt (Anna), Therese Orcutt Gallerani (Thomas R.), Kenneth Orcutt (Erin); fifteen great grandchildren: Isobel Segrest, James Maxwell Orcutt, Gabrielle Orcutt, James Robert Orcutt, Montana Orcutt, Kaden Orcutt, Randi Gallerani, Ailene Gallerani, James Thomas Gallerani, Michelle Gallerani, Samantha Orcutt, Charles Orcutt, Cheyanne Hatten, Collin Orcutt, Hailey Orcutt; and two great great-granddaughters: Bailey Ann Hatten and Laela Gallerani. She is also survived by a sister, Helen Brigida, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Ailene’s life was not always an easy one, but she endured it with a great sense of wit and humor. In her last years at Cape Heritage, she was very popular among the residents. She will be missed by all that knew her.
Family and friends are invited to attend Ailene’s visiting hours on Tuesday, May 7th from 1:00-2:00 PM, followed by a service at 2:00 PM at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. A burial will be held at Colebrook cemetery immediately after the service.
